![]() It seems longer than just three years ago this convivial crew of transplanted Brazilians hosted by Joann Jimenez and Manchildblack started breaking ground with their "Neo-Brasilian Fusion" sound. But here they are, celebrating only their third anniversary and winning the world over with a resounding rhythm that reflects the deepest roots of both Brazil and NYC. So much that François K. has asked them to produce a CD based on the party coming out this June on Wave Music mixed by residents DJs True and Miller Cruz. In celebration of their continued success they have called on Rich Medina, a veteran at moving dance floors with the power of the drum to join them. With residencies like Jump n' Funk consistently rocking it for years on the afro beat tip, this DJ is known for taking any genre and making it his own with his vast collection of rare irresistible grooves. Also a prolific poet, producer, and artist, Rich has recorded with artists like Jill Scott, Weldon Irvine, Don Blackman, KemiticJust, Yukihiro Fukitomi, DJ Spinna, Nathan Haines, DJ Mitsu, Bayaka, Scratch (The Roots) and King Britt among others. Medina?s debut album on the Kindred Spirits USA label, "Connecting the Dots" serves up fresh, flavorful vocal soul platters like Maya Azucena, Martin Luther, Ginelle Summer, and DeLouie Avant Jr. His visit to ALMA further transports us on Rich?s ride to rhythmical rapture with masterful live accompaniment by MAW ?Elements of Life's? Dario Boente. Dario?s last visit to ALMA with Louie Vega was so amazing that we had to ask him back for this very special anniversary celebration. Dario has performed in more than 14 countries worldwide and his compositions have been included in several albums and compilations. His band called ?Huge in Japan?, teams up inspired musicians from around the globe and have create quite a stir at Nublu (NYC). Dario layers the grime and groove of New York and London, the heartbeats of Brazil, the rituals of Argentina and the mother tongues of Africa, all into one seamless groove. Energy in its purest form. You don't want to miss his performance. You can also expect plenty of capoeira and samba... more information to follow.
